Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Spurs fans" by boss Frank.

Tottenham conceded two goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight home defeat of 2025.

But the main talking point was Fulham's next score when Vicario gave away the ball far beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

One of those booing sessions really angered the manager.

"I heard a few of our fans apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Match

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take responsibility for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to remain increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and calmness to reverse results. This match is a poor loss and it's tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's mistake, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second longest-range top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.

Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about attempting to achieve the right contact and get it on target. I felt a good sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.

This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to come prior to the close of the season.

Only one of those wins have come since Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.

"During in a poor run, everything seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the second is a error from Vic.

"This result puts us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest averages on file in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
