Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG

The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to develop a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. The project has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to launch in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the table, providing fans a new way to engage with The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.

Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a GM screen, miniatures, and various premium versions.

Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the nation into chaos. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, turning the urban landscape into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents come in.

Development on the game has been underway for about several years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider market, particularly in North America. Production will start immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping projected for the latter part of 2026.

An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the system reveals it employs d10s exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical style. Agents use abilities to assemble small dice pools, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Instead of summing the total, players choose a single “result die” from the group.
  • This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness

Battles stress placement and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to favor teamwork and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.

A Novel Health Mechanic

The way injuries is tracked introduces a interesting thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage reduces their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.

  1. At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They may still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to video game shooters.
  3. Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A publicly available Quickstart Guide will be released in the near future. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. Further information and the full range of offerings are expected to be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
