The latest action-packed title that players dived into was Far Cry 6, which featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the bad guy, Antón, and came out during October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for delighting in chaos and insanity with the same enthusiasm, all while presenting engaging, ideologically themed stories. No wonder then that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry anthology series brought on board two visionaries whose work have represented all of those elements.
Based on Ubisoft's hit video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The series will also parallel the video games' structure by featuring a fresh setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our associates at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this cherished property.”
Mac will also star in the show, but as of now, we have no details on what part that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new comprehensive agreement with the creator.
“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally accommodating, entrusting us with one of the most renowned video-game realms ever created. And along the way, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant confidence and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style program. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To develop a large-scale action show that can evolve from season to season, while always examining the core of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens, is a long-held aspiration. I’m eager to collaborate with Rob and present our common bold, visionary style to the screen.”
A schedule for when we can anticipate the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
