Arne Slot has announced that the Anfield decision-makers agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he has no intention of discarding their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a solution. The manager admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven games was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Slot accepted the expectations were high before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a substantial investment of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," commented Slot, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the European competition and travel to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Slot believes his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and fully prepared for the schedule ahead". He mentioned that the summer investment in players such as the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is probably unavailable again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the years to come".
When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with several explanations why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."
Only Burnley (21) have allowed more significant openings from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The table-toppers, the North London club, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no justification to compromise forward-thinking approach for a more pragmatic style after ten matches without a clean sheet.
"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to alter our approach entirely but we have to enhance in preventing goals," he declared.
"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were leading 3-1, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Definitely not. We do allow a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being 1-0 down so you play more openly. But overall I don't think that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our issue is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
