The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several personalities within her must escape from a maze of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
