Audiences are thrilled for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, already receiving positive feedback and drawing from themes from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, HBO declared that the second installment will arrive early, timed perfectly for Halloween.
Kicking off on the last day of October at midnight PT, the next part of It: Welcome to Derry will make its debut on the streaming service, before its linear broadcast. The remaining installments of the series run will continue to air on the weekend on the network and streaming service, culminating in the final episode on December 14th.
Based in the Derry mythology, It: Welcome to Derry borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while building upon the universe realized by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One highlighted young characters battling unimaginable horrors, so it’s fitting that the series continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the first installment of the HBO series proves it set out to increase the tension, offering more frightening moments than the cinematic versions and establishing a brutal tone for the rest of the season.
Taking place in the 1960s, the program introduces a different group of adults and children residing in a outwardly charming locale concealing a sinister core. Derry operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. While It: Welcome to Derry might seem like it skews too close to the movies initially, what distinguishes the digital program is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults simultaneously. Younger characters stay especially susceptible to the monster's horror, but grown-ups aren’t spared confronting their individual fears stemming from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.
Episode 2 airs on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
