Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Player Response

Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
