The City boss confessed experiencing "embarrassment" following an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's loss at Newcastle this past weekend.
At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.
"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the operator. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."
"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to clinch the title we have to do 100 points, high nineties, or we fall short."
The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," he conceded. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."
The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December during our historic run? No."
On the subject of his talk with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "I've known him a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we converse. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."
Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach addressed his squad immediately after a game. "No - as long as it's respectful as I do, it’s not a problem," he noted, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, he was involved."
City were unhappy that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later show he was level.
Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, it means that every season annually," he commented.
The club has ten points from four matches of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
