Well, perhaps an Ashes series in Australia where they still have a chance to secure the famous trophy following the initial matches.
Unfortunately, this scenario is off the table this time, though, after the hosts' dominant triumph in Adelaide left the home side leading three-nil for the fourth straight contest on home turf.
England's famous supporters' group, the vocal contingent, have thousands of supporters traveling for the concluding fixtures in the SCG and MCG.
There are also tour groups who will spend the Christmas period overseas, as well as relatives and companions heading for a special expedition.
The Ryding siblings are four such fans.
The four siblings had their travel arrangements and match passes arranged for the fourth and fifth Tests "a full year in advance", anticipating a historic English victory.
Sadly, they've observed Australia dismantle the tourists in just a short period from their house in their hometown.
"People in the office has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.
"Our expectation had been that we would have something to play for upon our arrival."
Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of breaking a 15-year drought for a series win in Australia ahead of the tour.
Yet now they are staring down the barrel of extending their winless run in the country to 19 games when the Boxing Day Test begins in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.
The tourists - and their supporters - will be desperate to avoid a clean sweep.
One sibling noted the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in the past couple of seasons had "renewed interest in" Test cricket for followers of the team.
But the Ryding siblings said they had realistic outlooks for the final two games - and all they are asking for from the players is "a bit of fight".
"Commentators consistently points it out, but it all hinges on fortitude. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," added Rory.
"In a five-day Test match, you should hunker down. Chasing balls 'outside the line has not been part of the textbooks, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."
Asked whether he believed England will win a match in this Ashes series, one fan responded: "The evidence suggests the Aussies are just too good at the moment."
"Necessarily, there must be multiple performers that stands up for England and makes a big impact."
Regardless of the result, the siblings are still looking forward to the trip.
"We will have a wonderful trip anyway," added another sibling. "Our approach is that mindset."
"Naturally, it's a let-down we don't have more to play for, but we have made a substantial financial commitment by now."
"We will make the most of celebrating the holidays in Australia. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time away from home over Christmas."
An educator, Katie is determined to make the most of the long-haul travel as part of her time off.
"If all else fails, I've got golf to fall back on," she finished.
