A global push is underway to secure the liberation of Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian prisoner seen by many as the most promising candidate to govern a future Palestinian state.
Multiple public opinion research consistently show he is the favored Palestinian political figure throughout Gaza and the West Bank.
Street art displaying the phrase "Free Marwan" are emerging in the UK capital, with a substantial creative exhibit was installed in Kobar village, adjacent to Ramallah.
Barghouti is detained by Israel for in excess of two decades after being found guilty for organizing attacks that led to the fatalities of five civilians.
The court case was labeled as fundamentally unfair by the global legislative organization.
Barghouti, a member of the Fatah party, is a vocal advocate of the peaceful coexistence plan.
Many analysts argue Israel persists in denying his release because they recognize he would become an effective advocate for the Palestinian cause.
The political leader has repeatedly put in solitary confinement without consistent access to his family.
He has reportedly experienced four serious attacks during prison since 2023, yet is said to be physically and mentally capable to undertake political leadership if released.
He has not been visited by his family for multiple years, and his legal representatives have been permitted to visit him just five visits in 24 months.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has been barred from seeing him, constituting a violation of human rights protocols.
Most currently, Israel's national security minister has been captured on video taunting and threatening with execution against the detained figure.
The Israeli parliament is reviewing new bills that would permit the execution for those found guilty for ideologically inspired fatalities.
As a prominent leader of both Fatah and the Palestine Liberation Organization, but imprisoned while Yasser Arafat was at the helm, many believe Barghouti could rebuild trust to both organizations.
These factions have experienced erosion during the lengthy governance of current president Mahmoud Abbas.
An Israeli court in 2004 issued five life terms against Barghouti, in addition to 40 years for his alleged involvement in planning lethal operations during the second intifada.
In current circumstances, his wife Fadwa Barghouti has conducted her initial media appearances to Israeli media outlets.
She stressed that her husband "views the peaceful resolution as the way forward to create stability."
His son Arab Barghouti stated that his father "represents hope to Palestinians at a moment when there are attempts to silence him and make him overlooked."
He continued: "Witnessing people around the world raise his name gives me hope. I hope our family's situation was exceptional, but countless of Palestinian families suffer the same hardship."
"Honoring him in this way is not only a demand for his liberty – it is a call for the liberation of all Palestinian prisoners and a stance for justice for every family still anticipating."
