Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Mayor Adams has announced his decision to endorse Andrew Cuomo in the forthcoming mayoral race, despite months of strained relations between the pair of Democrats.

An Unexpected Turnaround After Previous Accusations

Just last month, Adams had publicly condemned Cuomo, describing him as a “snake and a liar” and accusing him of having “a history of marginalizing Black political contenders.” However, in a recent statement, Adams made a U-turn, stating he now intends to support Cuomo in neighborhoods where he maintains significant backing.

“It is crucial to really wake up the Black and brown communities that have experienced gentrification on how vital this race is,” Adams commented.

Adams continued, “Residents have seen their rents increase in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been disregarded in those areas, and I’m going to go to those neighborhoods and speak one on one with community leaders and organizations and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them motivated.”

Election Landscape and Recent Events

The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the competition between the former governor and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose growing support has attracted attention worldwide and symbolized hopes for a revitalized leftwing of the Democratic party.

During a recent candidate forum, both Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa declared they would reject the mayor's support if extended.

Months ago, the mayor had launched his bid for another term as an independent after being indicted on legal accusations which were later dismissed in return for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

During a unrelated press conference on the same day, the mayor responded to journalists inquiring into the endorsement plan by stating, “Andrew and I will appear together later today.”

This development came a day after Adams and Cuomo were spotted attending a game side-by-side at the the NBA team's first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a contentious mayoral debate.
