A catastrophic blast at a security post in Indian-administered Kashmir has caused the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to thirty-two others, according to official statements.
The event took place when a collection of seized explosive materials accidentally blew up during processing activities.
The blast happened on Friday night at the Nowgam police station, where blast substances confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern state of Haryana province were being kept briefly.
Regional security director announced that the detonation substances were pending technical investigation when a "very unfortunate" accident during processing caused their explosion at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Police authorities verified that this was an "unintentional explosion" and not a terrorist attack. "Any other speculation regarding the cause of this incident is unwarranted," stressed the law enforcement head during a media conference.
The police station suffered severe damage from the blast, with nearby constructions also being influenced by the strong explosion.
Several automobiles were "covered in blaze and reduced to charred husks, with fragments distributed across the area," according to authority statements.
"The intensity of the blast was such that some physical fragments were recovered from nearby houses, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the police station," mentioned an authority informant.
The bulk of the victims were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.
The territory's Regional Leader conveyed commiserations and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the devastating event.
"I have commissioned a investigation to establish the origin of the unintentional blast. Profoundly distressed by the loss of precious lives due to profoundly sorrowful accidental blast at Nowgam police station in the Srinagar area. My sympathies to the grieving relatives. I wish for speedy recovery of the wounded," stated the authority on digital platforms.
