A charity drive is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from mid-December.
